Uasdivers is an acronym that stands for The Underwater Adventure Seekers. (UAS), a group based in Washington, D.C., was started by Dr. Albert José Jones on February 25, 1959. The Underwater Adventure Seekers are dedicated to continual education and training. There are club criteria for all members, but each has goals relating to recreational diving and underwater archeology. Some members specialize in underwater photography, videography, fish identification, reef conservation, spearfishing, and wreck diving, and individuals have volunteered to teach others to rescue diving, navigation, and other skills. Because the UAS is the founder club of the National Association of Black SCUBA Divers, it has inspired other NABS groups.
